Edythe L. Bronston
is a 1980 graduate of Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, with honors, after
having served for many years in a leadership role with the League of Women Voters. She now focuses her
practice in the area of receiverships, as well as serving as a Court-appointed Partition Referee and
Provisional Director. After a lengthy partnership in Cox, Castle & Nicholson, one of the premier
California real estate firms, she opened her own practice in 1995.
Receiverships. Edythe
L. Bronston is prominent in the receivership community throughout the State of California, both as a
court-appointed receiver and an attorney representing receivers, as well as an attorney representing
creditors wishing to obtain a receiver. A receiver is a neutral person who takes possession of
property on behalf of the Court, operating that property to maintain the status quo and preserve the
value until pending disputes are resolved. As Receiver, Ms. Bronston has operated businesses, run
manufacturing facilities, completed construction, sold assets, completed and sold movies, managed
residential and commercial real properties, and generally performed to preserve troubled properties
and businesses during the pendency of litigation. She is well respected and recognized statewide as a
leader in this field, having served as Co-Chair of the Los Angeles/Orange County Receivers Forum and
having co-founded the statewide California Receivers Forum, of which she was 2004/2005 President. She
is frequently appointed as a Receiver and Provisional Director sua sponte by the Court. She generally
operates as her own counsel and is backed by an experienced administrative and field staff, leading to
efficiency and cost-effectiveness. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Remedies section
of the Los Angeles County Bar Association since 1985, and is a past President of that organization.
Provisional Director. Ms.
Bronston has acted as a Court-appointed Provisional Director
in many corporate disputes which have resulted in deadlock. As
such, she has been the swing vote on Boards of Directors of
many businesses, including a skilled nursing facility and a
law office, as well as various manufacturers. In her role of
Provisional Director she has often brought to a successful
culmination the sale of many entities and has assured that the
corporations which she serves efficiently conduct their
business.
Grantor Trustee and Disbursing
Agent. Ms. Bronston has acted as a Court-appointed Grantor Trustee and Disbursing Agent for
various entities, taking possession of assets for trust beneficiaries. As such, she has managed real
properties and sold properties to the benefit of all beneficiaries and creditors.
Partition Referee. Ms.
Bronston has, as Court-appointed Partition Referee, sold a multitude of real properties to the
satisfaction of all parties and the Court.
Mediator. Ms. Bronston is a
certified mediator and is much sought after as one of the original members of the mediation panel of
the United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California. In 2003, she was honored as having
settled the most cases in the Central District.
